`Gayatri Japa Yagna' being held in Shimoga

Special Correspondent

SHIMOGA: Over 100 vipras are participating in the 24-lakh Gayatri Japa Yagna which commenced on Wednesday at the precincts of the Sri Kudli Sringeri Sharada Math.

The yagna is being performed two times a day: once at 8.30 a.m. and again at 6 p.m.

Other rituals

In between, Chaturveda Parayana and other rituals are being observed as part of the yagna, which is being held under the guidance of Chandrashekar Valukeshwara Swamiji, Shankar Bharathi Swamiji of the math and Vedic Scholar Handalasu Lakshmi Narayana Bhat.

Seer takes part

Sri Jayendra Saraswathi of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, who visited the spot on Wednesday evening, blessed the participants.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the bomb explosions in Varanasi have made Hindus to introspect.

The seer said no religion preaches violence and hatred.

Violence abhorred

It is the lack of awareness of this fact that provokes misguided youth to take to violence.

He congratulated the organisers of the yagna. He performed a special puja to Goddess Sharadamba, the main deity of the math.
