Missile defence system

P. S. Suryanarayana

SINGAPORE: Japan and the U.S. will begin "joint development" of a deployable missile defence system within a year, said Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Shinzo Abe on Thursday. He was commenting on the "success" of the first-ever test of the pilot version which the two countries had fabricated through "joint research." The test was carried out under the U.S. auspices. Mr. Abe said the project had gained "significant credibility" . The move towards the development-stage acquire much political and strategic importance in the context of China's growing military modernisation. Japan is now said to have developed the "nose cone" for the pilot interceptor that was designed to destroy an incoming missile.
