Ajay Chautala demands Education Minister Mullana and Venod Sharma's resignations

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday categorically denied the allegation made by the INLD secretary general and Rajya Sabha MP, Ajay Singh Chautala, that no new announcement had been made at the `Nav Nirman Rally' at Hisar on March 5. Talking to media persons shortly after inaugurating a two- day orientation course for Members of the Legislative Assembly at the Haryana Vidhan Sabha here, Mr.Hooda said that the new announcements included enhancement in the wages of village chowkidars from Rs. 400 to Rs. 1,000 per month, sympathetic consideration in giving employment to those whose services were retrenched by the previous Government and introduction of an insurance scheme named after Rajiv Gandhi.

He said that the people in the State were feeling satisfied as a result of the welfare schemes being implemented by his regime.

About the CBI inquiry against the Chautala clan, he said that the inquiry would be impartial and without any political vendetta.

Mr.Hooda denied the allegation levelled by Mr.Chautala that Manu Sharma, the son of the Haryana Power Minister,Venod Sharma, had stayed at his official residence recently. Mr.Hooda asked why should Manu Sharma stay at his residence when he had his own home here?

Rape of schoolgirls

Earlier THE I ndian National Lok Dal had demanded resignations of Haryana Education Minister Phool Chand Mullana and Mr.Venod Sharma. Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Chautala said the entire State had been shocked by the incidents of alleged rape of schoolgirls by the teachers. The Education Minister should resign immediately over the failure of the Government to check such heinous crimes. Mr.Chautala also demanded that Mr.Venod Sharma resign as a hue and cry had been raised against the court verdict acquitting his son Manu Sharma in the Jessica Lal murder case. He charged that the law and order situation had deteriorated during the one-year tenure of the Hooda Government, adding that it was being ruled by "classmates'' of the Chief Minister.

Mr.Chautala said the Congress regime in the State was "politically maligning'' his family.
