New base year for consumer index

SHIMLA: The Labour Bureau has updated the base year for measuring inflation under the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) by introducing the 2001=100 series instead of the earlier 1982=100. The Labour Bureau Director-General, Balram, on Thursday said the maiden index in the new series has been released along with the index for January 2006.He said the index in the new series for January stood at 119.
