Police crack murder case

Staff Reporter

Phone bill and visiting card help them nab the accused

NELLORE: The district police solved the mystery behind the recent murder of a woman at Narasimhakonda.

The Nellore rural police, along with the crime police, apprehended the accused A. Immanuel alias Sudhakar Reddy, 38, at Atmakur bus stand on Wednesday. The victim was identified as Dasari Devi, 35, of Bapatla.

The murder was committed near a temple tank beside the Narasimhakonda temple on February 27. A telephone bill and a visiting card of a travel agency found near the body helped the police nab the accused person, Superintendent of Police N. Suryanarayana told reporters. The SP said that Immanuel and Dasari Devi belonged to Bapatla of Guntur district. Leaving their families behind, they left for Muthyalapadu in Nellore district six years ago. They changed their names as Sudharkar Reddy and Laskhmi at Muthyalapadu.

In January, Devi went to Bapatla and told her mother that she was living with Immanuel at Muthyalapadu. Police investigation revealed that Immanuel allegedly tried to kill her a few months ago suspecting her character. On the pretext of going to the temple, Immanuel took Devi and their two children to Narasimhakonda temple on February 27. Both of them consumed liquor near the temple tank and the accused allegedly stabbed the women with a knife when she was in an inebriated condition.
