Meet of rehabilitation experts begins today

Staff Correspondent

MYSORE: The All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH), in association with the Rehabilitation Council of India, will organise a meet of rehabilitation experts here from Friday.

A press release issued here on Thursday said experts in the area of disability have been invited to the meeting. Policy-makers, planners and professionals working in the area will participate in it.

The issues to be debated include examination reforms with a view to improving the quality of rehabilitation professionals, strategies to orient all teachers of regular schools in meeting special educational needs, strategies for producing need-based teaching and learning material, and creating employment opportunities.

The meet will discuss priority areas in research, capacity building of institutions, guidelines for development of teaching and learning material and expanding professional training programmes beyond the boundaries of India, especially to SAARC and other developing countries.

The release said the council has conducted two workshops to review manpower requirement, development of resource material, involvement of the corporate sector, and strategies for reaching those with disabilities in rural areas.

The meeting is expected to prepare important proposals for the XI Five Year Plan.
