CHENNAI: The `2006 Gateway Short Film Festival Awards' instituted by students of the Department of Media Sciences, College of Engineering, Anna University, will be given away on March 17. Fifty-two entries have been received from colleges across the country. An exclusive category for animated short films has been introduced this year. "Life After HIV, women literacy and hazards of using mobiles" are some of the socially relevant themes chosen for this year's awards, Vice-Chancellor D. Viswanathan told reporters here on Thursday. Unique platform
"It is a unique platform for students to bring out their talent and project socially relevant messages, keeping in focus the use of both creative and technical aspects of the audio-visual medium." He accepted a suggestion that the print media should also be included for the awards from the next year. Mr. Viswanathan said 18 films had been short-listed and sent for certification to the Censor Board. On March 14, all short films would be screened in the open air theatre of the College of Engineering. On March 17, the short-listed films would be screened at Sathyam Cinemas and the awards given away at Vivekananda Auditorium, Anna University, the same evening. The categories are, Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematographer, Best Editor, Best Script Writer, Best Animation Film and Audience Appreciation Film. There will also be an internal CEG award.
