Municipal Corporation plans mass campaign on sanitation

  • Dustbins to be painted with attractive colours and cemented to the ground
  • Rag pickers to be provided with tricycles to lift the garbage from the bins

HYDERABAD: The habit of relieving oneself on the roadside even when there are public urinals around could soon land public in legal wrangles, if the plans of the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) are any indication.

MCH Commissioner Sanjay Jaju after inspecting several areas in the city observed that men were urinating on roadsides even in busy traffic corridors. The corporation, while planning a massive mass campaign on sanitation, has decided to penalise and if need be, prosecute those who urinate on roadsides, he said.

All the dustbins would to be painted with attractive colours and cemented to the ground to avoid disturbance while rag pickers would be provided with tricycles to lift the garbage. Individuals have also been advised to form themselves into workforce organisations to get benefits from the corporation, Mr. Jaju said here on Thursday. He asked people to lodge complaints on sanitation, if any, by dialling the MCH toll-free number 151913 or by e-mailing the same to commissioner@ourmch.com.
