Cable operators to approach TDSAT against action of pay channels

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The Cable TV Operators Association (COA) has decided to approach the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) to complain against the actions of pay channels.

The association was responding to a media advertisement released by one group of pay channels warning the consumers against cable operators not beaming their channels though they had not hiked the prices. On the contrary, these channels had been constantly hiking their fee, putting extra pressure on cable operators to increase the subscription charges. Unlike the other States, presence of small-level cable operators in the State had checked the subscription rates from going up, said the COA office-bearers. The association also decided to oppose the practice of pay channels making them sign blank agreements. This issue was raised at a meeting with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and the TDSAT in February last, they said.
