dated March 11, 1956: T-C Govt. in minority

The Congress Ministry in Travancore-Cochin, led by Mr. Panampilly Govinda Menon, has decided to resign. The decision follows the resignation of six members from the Congress Legislature Party which reduces the party into a minority in the Assembly. The six rebel Congress members submitted their resignation from the Congress Legislature Party on March 9, reducing the strength of the Congress Party in the 118-member Assembly to 54. The six members have written to the Speaker to allot them separate seats in the Assembly from March 12. They have informed the Speaker that they would function as a separate group under the leadership of Mr. T.M. Verghese.
