Letters to the Editor
Dr. T.J. Cherian, who passed away in Chennai on March 6, lived in the Railway hospital with his mother to whom he was utterly devoted. Sometimes he could be seen wheeling her around in the corridors of the hospital. He was a friend of my father who used to spend long hours watching the doctor with his patients. Many years ago my mother was admitted to a private hospital and diagnosed with cardiac problems. I met Dr. Cherian on his evening walk and when he heard about my mother's illness he immediately came to the hospital. He stood at the foot of the bed and observed her for some time. Then he told the doctors there that he heart was strong and that her kidneys were failing. His diagnosis proved correct. Dr. Cherian lived and breathed medicine. It was his world.
