Pondicherry: Even as the Congress now in power in Pondicherry is yet to know categorically the number of seats it would get, and the seats it would share with the alliance partners in the Assembly polls there was a large turnout of party men at the Pradesh Congress committee office here on Friday who sought through applications party tickets to contest the polls. Applications were being received for all the thirty Assembly seats pending decision on sharing of seats. A group of persons presented applications on behalf of the Chief Minister N. Rangasamy seeking formally the party ticket for him to contest the poll. Mr. M. Chandirakasu and A. Namassivayam the Ministerial colleagues of Mr. Rangasamy also presented the applications. There was also a good turn out of women who wanted tickets to contest the polls. A good number of present legislators, former MLAs and also heads of some public sector undertakings and chairperson of the Women`s Commission Ms. Kamalani were among those who handed the applications with prescribed fees for the ticket to contest the poll.
March 20 deadline
The party would continue to receive application forms till March 20. The PCC leader P. Shanmugham said he would present a detailed report to the AICC leader Sonia Gandhi by month end apprising her of the political scenario in Pondicherry in the context of the polls. The PCC premises was buzzing with unending flow of party men to greet their respective leaders when they presented the petitions to seek party ticket.
