Panel on duty drawback

NEW DELHI: The Centre on Friday announced the setting up of a committee for formulating all-Industry rates of duty drawback for 2006-07. The objective is to expand the coverage of the scheme by inclusion of new items and provide adequate neutralisation of the customs and Central excise duties as well as service tax.

The committee, according to an official release here, is to be headed by Saumitra Chaudhuri, Member, Economic Advisory Council (EAC) to the Prime Minister, and have S.B. Mohapatra, Secretary (Retd.) and T.R. Rustagi, Chief Commissioner of Customs and Central Excise (Retd.) as members. With the Joint Secretary (Drawback) as the Secretary, the committee is to be serviced by the Drawback Division in the Department of Revenue.
