Protest againstMaxim's portrayal of Brinda Karat
|
NEW DELHI:
Women's organisations on Thursday condemned the printing of a morphed image of Rajya Sabha member Brinda Karat in copies of Maxim magazine circulated among advertisers.
In a joint statement, they demanded that the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry cancel the licence issued to the U.K.-based publication to bring out an Indian edition. According to the statement, "The offensive photograph exposes a shameful attempt by Maxim magazine to exploit women who have achieved prominence by portraying them in a demeaning and derogatory way to derive cheap publicity and increase profits."
