Two bodies recovered

Mirzapur: Police on Friday recovered the bodies of an aged couple -- allegedly abducted yesterday -- in Surra forests under Naugarh area of this naxal-infested district of Uttar Pradesh. Bandhukol (65) and his wife Champa (60) went missing from their residence at Nagnath Haraiya village last night. The family members informed the police of the development and alleged the couple's abduction by a group of about 10 naxalites. However, the police refused to lodge an FIR in the case, claiming it to be a domestic issue. Police Superintendent Arun Kumar maintained that there was remote possibility of the involvement of naxal elements in the crime. He suspected the role of the victims' kin in the case following property dispute. "The angle of naxalites has been added just to mislead the police," Mr Kumar claimed.

Fake currency

racket busted

Basti: Police on Friday busted a fake currency racket here with the arrest of three persons and seizure of 12 notes of Rs 50 denomination in counterfeit tender. Police Superintendent Amitabh Thakur said acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted near the district TB hospital and Arvind Kumar, Rakesh Chaudhary and Indrajit Gaud arrested. Police also seized some equipment used in the illegal trade.

Army jawan arrested

Ferozpur: Police on Friday raided a hotel here and arrested an Army jawan with an alleged Pakistani spy and recovered secret documents from their possession. Senior Superintendent of Police S.S. Shrivastav said that Army jawan Ajay Kumar was passing the information related to Army locations, ammunition depot and other military related information to Amit Kumar, who was on the pay rolls of the Pakistani intelligence agencies. Both have been booked under section 3/9 of the Official Secrets Act and section 120B of the IPC.

211 students

caught copying

Lucknow: In the ongoing Uttar Pradesh Board exams, 211 students were caught copying on Friday in the State. According to education department sources here, Allahabad division topped the list with 53 copycats, followed by Jhansi 34, Lucknow 30, Gorakhpur 20, Faizabad 17, Mirzapur 17, Agra 8, Basti 7, Azamgarh 7, Saharanpur 5, Kanpur 4, Meerut 4, Chitrakoot 3 and Varanasi 2. The copycats included 51 girls. So far, 2,964 students have been caught copying .
