Lokayukta traps revenue official

BANGALORE:
The Lokayukta police on Friday trapped a revenue official while he was allegedly accepting Rs. 10,000 for transfer of khata of a property. The Lokayukta sleuths recovered from the official Rs. 40,100 unaccounted cash. Anand H.C. of Hosahalli village approached the revenue inspector, Doddaballapur taluk office, for transfer of khata of a land to his name. Anand's application was rejected by the revenue inspector citing non-production of some documents.
Then, Anand approached Munisiddappa, sheristedar in the office. Munisiddappa allegedly demanded bribe of Rs. 20,000 for passing "a judicial order." He asked Anand to bring Rs. 10,000 to the office on Friday.
The Lokayukta sleuths caught Munisiddappa while he was accepting the sum. A case under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been booked against Munisiddappa.
Later, when he was produced before Lokayukta N. Venkatachala, Munisiddappa said he had kept with him Rs. 30,000 given by his son-in-law to clear a loan taken by the latter. His friend had given him Rs. 10,000 as he was in need of money, Munisiddappa said.
