CHENNAI: Dinesh Dalmia, arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the alleged Rs.595-crore stocks scam, was on Friday produced before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Egmore, after he was subjected to scientific tests at the Forensic Science Laboratory, Bangalore. He was later taken to the Central Prison here. The CBI had filed a petition in the court of D. Arulraj, seeking permission for conducting polygraph, brain mapping and narco-analysis tests on Mr. Dalmia. During custodial interrogation, it said, the accused did not cooperate with the investigation. He did not disclose the use of the defrauded amount and the other persons who had colluded with him.
Tests necessary
Hence, it was necessary to conduct the tests on him. Defence counsel opposed the tests, claiming the investigating agency's plea amounted to violation of constitutional guarantee. In his order, Mr. Arulraj said considering the nature of the case, the gravity of the alleged offence and the huge public money involved, he was allowing the petition. The court has permitted the Kolkata police to take Mr.Dalmia there for being produced before a court. The accused had surrendered before the Chennai court in connection with two cases registered against him by the Kolkata police. Counsel A. Saravanan said a team of the Kolkata police had arrived in Chennai.
