BJP to launch poll campaign on March 19

CHENNAI: Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh will formally launch the party's election campaign at a rally in Chennai on March 19.

State BJP unit president C.P. Radhakrishan told reporters here on Friday that the rally would be held on Pulla Reddy Avenue in Shenoy Nagar.

The process of inviting nominations had begun. The State Election Committee would meet on March 15 and submit its findings to the central leadership which would announce the party's position. The number of seats to be contested and the candidates would be finalised by March 20.

Smaller parties had sent feelers to the BJP for tie-up.

Mr. Radhakrishnan announced the constitution of finance, election, manifesto and negotiation committees. BJP national executive member M.N. Sukumar Nambiar heads the finance committee; former Union Minister S. Thirunavukkarasar, the election panel; deputy leader in the Assembly H. Raja the manifesto committee and former State unit president K.N. Lakshmanan the negotiation committee.
