CHENNAI: The Pattali Makkal Katchi will contest in 31 constituencies in the Assembly elections as part of the Democratic Progressive Alliance. The agreement was signed by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi and PMK founder S. Ramadoss at the DMK headquarters here on Friday. Emerging from the meeting, Dr. Ramadoss said that the intention of the combine and his own party was to dislodge the "anti-people and anti-democratic" All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government. A government had to be formed to ensure the welfare of people with Mr. Karunanidhi as Chief Minister. Towards this end, his party had made a sacrifice on the number of seats it was contesting. Being happy about something was one thing and having total satisfaction was another, Dr. Ramadoss said. "We are happy." He said the seats given could not be described as too many or too little. With this, the DMK has concluded the seat-sharing negotiations with all its major allies. As many as 132 candidates will contest the elections on the DMK symbol, three of whom will be from the Indian Union Muslim League. A few smaller parties will also be accommodated. They too would contest on the DMK symbol.
