Five arrested for Shivajinagar clashes

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The police have arrested five persons in connection with the communal clashes in Shivajinagar police station limits on Thursday.

The police said they had registered four cases in connection with the violence, in which seven persons were injured and eight houses and 22 vehicles damaged. Of the seven injured, two had suffered stab wounds, they said.

The police said they held meetings with leaders of the two communities and requested them to ensure peace in the area. Though no untoward incident was reported on Friday, there was tension in the area.

The police have tightened security in Shivajinagar and surrounding areas. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Bijay Kumar Singh camped in the area and supervised the security arrangements.

Minister for Small-scale Industries and Shivajinanagar MLA Katta Subramanya Naidu visited the Bowring Hospital where the injured are being treated and enquired about their health.
