HUBLI: Four employees, including three engineers, of the Hubli Electricity Supply Company (HESCOM) have been placed under suspension on charges of involvement in an electricity theft case in Nargund of Gadag district. M.V. Murthy, IGP, Vigilance of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited, in a press release said that of the four suspended employees, Assistant Executive Engineer M.H. Kulkarni was arrested and produced before the court. He has been released on bail. All the four employees have been named as accused in the electricity theft case. The three others B.M. Bani, in-charge Assistant Executive Engineer; Jagadish G. Soratur, Assistant Engineer on contract, and R.Y. Dambal of Nargund have obtained anticipatory bail, he said. The vigilance of squad of HESCOM comprising S.N. Sanu, G.R. Patil and A.A. Mirji unearthed an electricity theft case in Nargund on February 24. The vigilance squad found out that a civil contractor, V.H. Rangaraddi, had taken illegal electricity connection for his stone-crushing unit from a 110 KV transformer. The squad then had levied a fine of Rs. 2,72,739 on the contractor. On investigation, it was reportedly found that the officials of HESCOM were involved in facilitating the electricity theft. In order to convey the message that such acts of employees would invite stringent action, the four employees have been named as accused in the case.
