BIDAR: Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a rail roko here on Saturday seeking speedy completion of work on the Bidar-Gulbarga railway line. They blocked the Nanded-Bangalore express train for 20 minutes. They threatened to launch State- wide agitation if their demand is not fulfilled. They shouted slogans against the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government. They alleged that the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi is indifferent to the development of backward areas such as the Hyderabad-Karnataka region. The activists burnt an effigy of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad. He has provided only Rs. 10 crores for a project that needs Rs. 400 crores, Revanasiddappa Jalade, leader of the BJP, said. "The Bidar-Gulbarga railway line will not only benefit the State, but also the country. The Centre should not consider this as a favour to the State, but as part of its moral responsibility in developing the country," Bidar Chamber of Commerce and Industries President B.G. Shetkar said. The former MLA Ramesh Pandey, zilla panchayat Vice-President Jyothi Charan Rathod, General Secretary of the BJP's State unit women's wing Shakuntala Beldale, Basavaraj Arya, and Sangamesh Nasigar led the activists.
