Government land unavailable for housing offices in Kodagu

  • APMC likely to be given alternative land
  • Report on vacancies in various departments in Kodagu submitted to Government

Madikeri: Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav on Friday said that the mini Vidhana Soudha building and other offices of the district administration are likely to be located in the present Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) yard in the city owing to unavailability of buildings to accommodate government offices in Madikeri.

Presiding over the District Coordination Committee meeting, Mr. Yadav proposed the idea since the APMC yard did not have regular activity. If necessary, APMC could be given alternative land, he said. The APMC officials said they would examine the matter.

According to a press release, Mr. Yadav asked the officials of all departments to be present in the district coordination committee meetings. He was apprised of the difficulties faced by many departments.

Shortage of officials and staff and space for accommodating Government offices in Madikeri city was a major problem, he said. He had submitted a detailed report to the State Government on the vacancies in various departments in Kodagu.

He asked officials of the Fire and emergency Services department to buy private lands in Gonicoppa for the construction of a fire station. Steps should be taken to inaugurate the fire station in Madikeri, the works of which had been completed.

Officials brought to Mr. Yadav's notice the issue of unavailability of government lands. Many buildings, though housing Government offices for long, have not been registered in the name of the Government, they said. Mr. Yadav asked the tahsildars to sort out the problems.

He pulled up some officials who had attended the meeting without proper information.

BSNL officials requested Mr. Yadav to provide the help of the Public Works Department in identifying places for digging roads to lay cables
