Dharmapuri: A total of 2 lakhs employment opportunities have been projected in Information Technology and other related fields throughout the country for the year 2005-06. Of this, about one lakh vacancies alone have been filled till date.

Along with this about 4 lakhs students have missed the opportunity for effective learning and have been produced as unemployed graduates, the Vice-Chancellor of Anna University, Dr. D. Viswanathan, has said..

Conferring degrees at the 4th Convocation Day of the Jayam College of Engineering and Technology here on Saturday he said that a total of 27 lakhs Indian scientists were employed in the U.S. In addition about 14 lakhs Indian scientists were working in other countries. Unfortunately, there were hardly 25,000 scientists in the country. To make the country into a developed nation students must take the first decision to become a scientist. The vision of the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam to make India into a developed nation is in the hands of students.

Infrastructure

Mr. Viswanathan said there was a serious shortage of both infrastructure and human resource for teaching in the education sector throughout the country.

It is our desire to take education to every nook and corner of the country and provide access through new technologies.

Students will be the major beneficiaries through this Interactive Satellite Education Programme linking various institutions at a relatively low cost. Knowledge based industries will have greater relevance rather than traditional labour intensive industries. Information Technology has been making a profound impact on every aspect of human life. This technology is breaking human barriers and building new interconnections in the emerging global village.

Tamil Nadu is on the path of progress in IT in the country. The emergence of space technology as a powerful tool for information gathering and for rapid and reliable communications over long distances and to remote areas has been a major contributor to the IT sector.

India has already made a mark in the global IT industry and is destined to emerge as a superpower in IT he said.

Mr. Viswanathan conferred degrees to 121 students and inaugurated a Wireless and Digital library at an outlay of Rs.50 lakhs on the college campus. JCET Founder cum Chairman, Dr. R. Krishnaswamy and Principal, K. Jegadeesan attended.
