BANGALORE: Union Minister of State for Planning M.V. Rajasekharan interacted with students of the Government Model Higher Primary School at Geddalahalli near Sanjaynagar here on Saturday and told them to focus on their studies. He called upon teachers to provide quality education to students from all sections of society. The Minister inaugurated a science exhibition and presented awards to students who have excelled in various fields. He appreciated the decision of the Prem Nath Agricultural Science Foundation (PNASF) to adopt a school laboratory and initiate a programme to plant saplings. Under the programme, about 100 students will be given an opportunity to experiment with plants. They will be introduced to different kinds of fruits, vegetables and ornamental plants. Students will grow selected crops to understand their growth pattern. They will learn to use the knowledge in improving nutrition and preserving the environment, PNASF Chairman Prem Nath said. The 46-year-old school, which has 620 students, does not have a playground. Schoolteachers say the school once had about one acre and 20 guntas of land, and a major extent has been encroached upon by the "real estate mafia". A dispute over the land is before the Karnataka High Court.
Assistance
The school has 16 teachers and a computer facility. The Mahila Dakshata Samithi and Lions Club of Bangalore have provided financial assistance to the school. Deputy Director of Public Instruction (Bangalore North) Veda Prakash and Block Education Officer Jayaranga were present.
