4.63 crore voters in Tamil Nadu
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
Out of 19 lakh claims received for inclusion of names in electoral rolls during the summary revision with January 1 as the qualifying date, 13.76 lakh applications were accepted, the Chief Electoral Officer, Naresh Gupta, said here on Saturday.
Electorate size
In a release here, Mr. Gupta said the electorate size after the summary revision of rolls was 4.63 crore, an increase of 13 lakh voters over the number in the draft rolls.
There were 44,000 deletions.
The coverage of electors with the photo identity cards was steadily picking up with 1,300 designated photography centres operating now.
"The coverage is expected to cross 75 per cent by the end of March. There have been problems in two out of 14 regions in view of vendors not being able to procure the required set of equipment and deploy suitable manpower for the operations."
