Two held, 12,000 detonators seized

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Police nabbed two persons carrying 12,000 detonators in a private bus that was going from Hyderabad to Anantapur at Shamshabad on Friday.

Ramesh and Bangarappa confessed to the police that they procured the detonators from a person in Hyderabad and were taking them to Anantapur for selling to labourers working in quarries.

"They earlier worked as labourers in quarries. Since there was a high demand for detonators from quarry units in Anantapur, they bought them here and wanted to make fast buck by selling the same for a higher price," the police said.

The two passengers admitted to have bought the detonators for Rs. 50,000. Officials of the Road Transport Corporation and Commercial Taxes who were routinely inspecting buses at Shamshabad grew suspicious on seeing the baggage belonging to the passengers and alerted the local police after finding detonators inside.
