Workbook released

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: A workbook, for primary school children, in English to promote better understanding of child sexual abuse and ways to deal with it, was released on Saturday.

Published by Tulir, the workbook uses cartoons and simple language to explain to children sexual abuse, the child's right to say no to persons touching its body and ways to approach parents or confidants to bring the issue out. Tulir, which conducted a survey in schools, found that 42 per cent of the 2,211 children, mostly adolescents, had been abused.

Vidya Reddy of Tulir says the book is intended to sensitise children, parents, teachers and school managements on the prevalence of child sex abuse. The book will be distributed in Bangalore by members of Enfold Proactive Health Trust, another non-governmental organisation working in the area.
