BIDAR: Women writers at the second annual conference of the Karnataka Lekhakiyara Sangha on Sunday criticised the Government for its failure to control female infanticide. "The Union and State Governments speak about equal opportunities to women. All this rhetoric is useless when women are not given an opportunity to be born," said writer and conference president Shankuntala Durge. "Just as there is a difference between good intentions and hard work, there is a huge difference between having a law and implementing it. If the Government keeps drafting such laws without planning to enforce them, we are forced to think it does not plan to stop such evil practices in the first place," she said. She thanked the sangha for organising such conferences. She said such collective thinking would influence public policies. Shivakumar Nagarwar released a book by first-time women poets.
