MADURAI: The Special Chief Electoral Officer, Chandra Prakash Singh, has urged Madurai district officials to ensure that the ongoing Electors' Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) campaign facilitated maximum coverage of all voters whose names figured in the electoral rolls by this month end.

Reviewing the progress of the campaign in the district at a meeting held at the Collectorate here on Saturday along with Collector D. Raajendiran, Mr. Singh said the situation warranted acceleration of the process of issuing EPIC as the deadline was March 31. He appealed to the district administration to devise appropriate strategy to maximise EPIC coverage within 20 days from now.

He suggested that the voters be exhorted to avail themselves of the opportunity in the first cycle of 10 days from now and thereupon the left-out voters could be asked to visit the designated photography location (DPL) to get their images captured for obtaining the cards.

Besides the Collector, the District Revenue Officer, K. Asaithambi, and the Personal Assistant to Collector (General), K. Vadivelu, were among those who participated. Later, speaking to reporters, the Collector said that nearly one lakh voters had been covered thus far out of a total of 9.9 lakh eligible electorate in the district. Replying to a query, Mr. Raajendiran said if necessary, the administration would establish additional DPLs to make sure all voters were covered.
