BELLARY: Revenue authorities, with the help of police, removed encroachments along old Shreedhargadda Road in the city on Sunday. The process passed off peacefully. Several people, mostly poor, had erected huts on this road and also on the canal bund, which was objected to by land owners. Earlier efforts by authorities to persuade the people to vacate went in vain as the people insisted that they will vacate only if an alternative site was provided to them. On Sunday, Assistant Commissioner Mr. Bheemappa along with Tahasildar Mr. Laxman Singh and police officials, held several rounds of discussions with the people and persuaded them to clear the area.
