Sharanalayam Academy opened

Animal Husbandry Minister urges people to help the Home


  • 35 HIV positive, 65 special children
  • A day's food expenses Rs. 3,500

    POLLACHI: Animal Husbandry Minister P.V. Damodhiran on Sunday urged the public to come forward to help Sharanalayam, a home for orphans, HIV positive and destitute women.

    Token contribution

    At the inaugural of the Sharanalayam Academy for Sastra, Science and Service, the Minister offered a token contribution of Rs. 2,000. Sharanalayam has 240 inmates, including 35 HIV positive and 65 special children.

    Appreciating the service rendered by Sharanalayam in taking care of the underprivileged, Mr. Damodhiran said everyone should support the institution.

    An American advocate, Joseph Hanshe, who contributed $ US 30,000 to construct the meditation hall and yoga centre, said he would further help the institution to build classrooms. "They are doing yeoman service.

    Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University S. Sivasubramanian, Tirupur Exporters Association President A. Sakthivel, Kinathukadavu MLA S. Dhamodaran appreciated the trustees and staff for running the organisation. They said they could see smile in the faces of these children who had been abandoned by their parents.

    Managing Trustee of SNR Sons Trust R. Venkatesalu lit the lamp. Sharanalayam Academy president G. Alagar Ramanujam and vice-president G.D. Gopalakrishnan said that the academy would inculcate virtues, values and the dignity of selfless service in every individual through spiritual education.

    No assets

    N. Vanitha, chairperson of Sharanalayam, said that despite not having assets and fixed deposits they were able to run the home with public support.

    She appealed to the public to sponsor a day's food expenses by contributing Rs. 3,500. Secretary of Sharanalayam, N. Chandran, said they were determined to create a new generation and future leaders of the nation.
