TIRUPATI: The State Government is finalising a proposal to set up a Multipurpose Special Export Zone (MPSEZ) on the Sathyavedu-Varadaiahpalem track in Chittoor district situated close to the National Highway connecting Chennai-Kolkata. The MPSEZ spanning nearly 1,500 acres spread over 16 villages is being set up in Sathyavedu constituency taking advantage of its close proximity to the NH-5 and to Chennai as well. According to N. Raghuveera Reddy, Minister for Agriculture and Chittoor district in-charge, the Government would issue the required notification in this regard shortly. It and would initiate the land acquisition process with a total financial outlay of Rs. 150 crores.
Compensation
Referring to the resistance being put up by local farmers against acquiring their land for the SEZ, the Minister said besides a reasonable cash compensation all the families, would get a job each in the industrial zone if anyone in their families possessed the minimum qualification of an SSC pass or a polytechnic certificate. He said the proposed MPSEZ was being developed in view of an enthusiastic response from NRIs to set up industries in the State. District Collector S. S. Rawat was also present.
