SI, constables suspended

ERODE: The Superintendent of Police, Erode, P. Nagarajan, on Saturday night suspended a Sub-Inspector and three constables attached to the Prohibition Enforcement Wing.

During checks at the Bannari checkpost by the Prohibition Enforcement Wing police, 11 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor were seized from a van, which was going from Thalawady to Trichy. The personnel demanded Rs. 15,000 as bribe from 15 occupants of the van for not registering a case. After bargaining, the group gave Rs. 3,000 and continued the journey. Later, they approached the Eradication of Corruption Movement, which filed a complaint with the Superintendent of Police, who after a detailed inquiry suspended Sub-Inspector Kandavel and three constables - Soman, Manivel and Victor.
