ERODE: Oil companies should streamline LPG distribution as complaints of irregularities have been received due to scarcity, the executive committee meeting of the Consumer Protection Council held here recently said.
Difficulty
The meeting presided over by the council president, S.K.M. Maeilanandhan, said for the past some months, the LPG consumers were experiencing a lot of difficulties in getting refill cylinders. The meeting said that some LPG dealers were collecting "transportation fees" from the consumers for which no receipts were given. There was no proper distribution of the cylinders.
Appeal
Further, while giving new connections, the dealers were insisting that the consumers purchase stoves from them. The meeting appealed to the oil companies to intervene in the issue and streamline the distribution of LPG cylinders.
UGD scheme
Another resolution passed at the meeting welcomed the implementation of Rs. 36-crore Underground Drainage (UGD) Scheme for Erode municipal area. Under the scheme, sewage would be pumped from Erode town to Lakkapuram, located in a high-level area. The municipal administration had to spend Rs. 45 lakh a year for the project. To reduce expenditure, the meeting suggested that if the municipal administration purchased a land in Peelamedu village, situated on the other side of Kalingarayan canal, it would be easy for the Municipality to pump the sewage to the place and thus, reduce cost. The meeting lauded the Superintendent of Police, Erode, for implementing automatic signal system, especially at the Government Hospital Junction.
