MAKING A POINT: Social critic M.N. Vijayan participating in an open discussion organised by the Solidarity Youth Movement in Thrissur on Sunday.
THRISSUR: Noted social critic M.N. Vijayan has said that the Left in Kerala is in a state of slumber and it is essential to wake it up to resist the systematic designs launched by the neo-capitalist forces to make development an `apolitical agenda'. Prof. Vijayan was participating in an open discussion on "Development, colonisation and the Left" organised by the Solidarity Youth Movement (SYM) here on Sunday. Neo-capitalism is invading us in a new form of `development agenda', along with the campaign that money can control the rational consciousness of human beings. While capitalism is expanding through the sale of products in the early phase, neo-capitalism is advancing through cleverly crafted strategies to exploit the intelligence and desires of human race, Prof. Vijayan said. Kerala is being pushed into an `apolitical' ambience, and campaigns that `slavery is pleasure' are being widely propagated here. Left is the best alternative to combat the forces of colonisation. The rank and file of the Left should push the lethargic leaders into the most-needed battle against the forces of domination, he said. SYM State president Abdul Hameed Vaniambalam also spoke on the occasion. . CPI leader K.P. Rajendran also conceded that he was aware of the lacunas in the vision of the Left on developmental issues. M.M. Narayanan, K. Venu and O. Abdulrahiman were among those who participated in the discussion.
