Bidar: The district administration continued its drive to take over illegal property on encroached land belonging to the proposed government medical college in Bidar.

A team of officials took over a building valued at around Rs. 5 lakhs on Sunday. Officials broke open the lock. They held a panchanama to document the persons and things present.

    Video recording done

They designated the house as government quarters. The whole proceedings were video recorded. It will be allotted to the medical college principal once the college starts functioning. The Bidar Tahsildar will occupy it now. He will later vacate it, Deputy Commissioner Munish Moudgil told The Hindu.

Assistant Commissioner S. Shailaja, revenue and police officials and the public were present. The house belongs to Kamalakar Joshi, editor of the Hindi daily "Bidar Sandesh". It was built on land belonging to the Government Polytechnic College.

The State Government is building the medical college on the polytechnic college campus. The district administration had issued eviction notices to the owner. Mr Joshi had approached the court, but it did not entertain his plea.

The district administration issued him another notice for eviction. When he did not comply with the notice, the property was recovered, sources said.
