KOZHIKODE: The three-day national IT festival, `IRIS 2006,' conducted by MCA Centre, Vadakara, under Calicut University began at Municipal Hall Vadakara on Sunday. C.K. Nanu, MLA, inaugurated the fest. The aim of the fete is to communicate the importance and growth of Information Technology (IT) to the public. A procession prior to the festival was inaugurated by P. Sathidevi, MP. Vadakara municipal chairman T.P. Chandran presided over the function. The national IT seminar conducted in connection with the exhibition will begin on Monday. Experts in IT field, including P. Rajan of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, A. Rajagopal of the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C) and B. Murali of PSG College, Coimbatore, will lead the seminar. The MCA Centre organised `Cerebra 2002' and a national workshop on IT and applied physics in 2004.
A film festival, organised as part of the fete, began on Sunday. It will conclude on Monday. Students of various colleges under the Calicut and Kannur Universities will present cultural programmes.
