Cold wave continues unabated in Himachal

Some respite in lower hills; rain stops in Madhya Pradesh

Shimla: The high altitude tribal areas and other higher hills of Himachal Pradesh continued to shiver under piercing cold wave conditions after intermittent snowfall during the past 24 hours, while the mid and lower hills had some respite from cold, as day temperatures rose marginally.

The minimum night temperatures ranged between minus seven and minus 15 degrees in the tribal valleys of Lahaul and Spiti and Pangi valley of Chamba district, while it shot up by 10 to 15 degrees as bright sunshine greeted the region during the day. The wet snow started melting fast in Lahaul valley as temperature rose to 11 degrees Celsius. The State capital Shimla had 16.7 mm of rains till Sunday afternoon, while the sky remained heavily overcast. The minimum temperature stayed at 5.3 degrees, while the day temperature increased marginally to 12.3 degrees.

Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded a high of 23.2 and 22.4 degree and a low of 12.5 and 10.5 degrees Celsius respectively, chilly winds continued to sweep Shimla and adjoining areas, while weather remained clear in Kullu, Manali, Mandi, Kangra and other places. Bhopal: After nearly a week of causing heavy damage to gram, wheat and lintel crops, incessant rains have stopped in Madhya Pradesh.

Sagar, Rewa and Jabalpur divisions received drizzle overnight, while a dry weather was experienced in rest of the State. A meteorological department spokesperson told UNI here that upper air cycer was moving towards western Uttar Pradesh causing rainfall in some parts of that State.

The unseasonal rainfall and hailstorm had affected vegetables and fruits, while 43 persons were killed in rain-related incidents. PTI
