MACHILIPATNAM: Minister for Health and Finance K. Rosaiah on Sunday said that the State Government's objective was to provide qualitative treatment to patients at Government hospitals. Earlier, addressing a press conference, Mr. Rosaiah felt that there was a need to strengthen the medical and health department to offer better services to people. A recruitment drive was taken up by the Government to fill vacant posts in the hospitals. While 1,000 basic doctors were recruited in the last 22 months, 250 gynaecologists were also taken into Government service. An additional 200 basic doctors were recruited and posted in agency areas.

Permanent buildings would be constructed for 11 primary health centres in the district in the current financial year. A primary health centre would be set up in Machilipatnam soon.

In the current financial year, the Government would purchase 10 CT scan machines and three MRI scanners for different hospitals. With the support of private agencies, facilities like scanning would be provided in the Government hospitals. These facilities would be offered free of cost to white ration cardholders.
