MADURAI: Madurai Kamaraj University has identified nanosciences as the focus area under the University with Potential for Excellence Scheme for which funds would be received from the University Grants Commission. "The university will spend Rs.nine crore for this focus area for which an action plan is being worked out," the Vice-Chancellor, P. Maruthamuthu, told members of Academic Council at a meeting held here on Friday. In his opening remarks at the meeting, he said the university was entitled to a UGC allocation of Rs.30 crore during the next five years and from the total allocation, 30 per cent would be utilised for nanosciences. The rest of the UGC grant, which comes to Rs.21 crore, would be spent for overall development of the university, Dr. Maruthamuthu said and added that the proposed action plan would be sent to the UGC for approval. Already, the UGC had released Rs.10 crore as seed money. The university was making preparations for the visit of an expert team from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) from March 26 to 30 for re-accreditation purpose. "Formidable" Later, moving a complimentary motion, S.
