Water level

MADURAI: The water level in the Periyar dam stood at 125.90 feet. There was no inflow and discharge into the reservoir. The level in the Vaigai dam was 56.89 feet with an inflow of 195 cusecs and a discharge of 1,141 cusecs. The combined Periyar credit was 5,636 mcft.

Temple to remain closed

Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple will remain closed between 4 a.m. and midnight on March 18 in view of `Thirukalyana Utsavam' at Subramaniaswamy Temple at Tirupparankundram. Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar will leave for Tirupparankundram to attend the `utsavam,' according to a statement issued by Karumuttu T. Kannan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, and P. Baskaran, Executive Officer.

Insurance cover

The Department of Posts will provide Oriental Insurance Company's insurance cover to all post office account holders, on request, at a premium of Rs.15 per annum.

According to a press release from the Postmaster General, Southern Region, on request, Rs.15 will be deducted automatically from POSB account on filling an acceptance form. The account holder will get a benefit of accidental death insurance cover for Rs. one lakh. — Staff Reporter
