Protest against `negligence' of doctor at Channapatna

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: People staged a protest and threw stones on the Channapatna Government Hospital on Saturday following the death of a 34-year-old person because of alleged negligence by hospital authorities.

According to the police, Jagadish (35) and his friend, Shivaraj (33), were returning on a motorcycle in the afternoon after attending a function in Jagadish's relative's place in Arogaddi Doddi. Near Dasavara village, Jagadish lost control over the motorcycle and hit a borewell. Jagadish and Shivaraj were taken to Channapatna Government Hospital. Jagadish died in the hospital. Shivaraj is receiving treatment there.

The death of Jagadish led the Dasavara villagers pour out their ire against the hospital authorities. They alleged that Jagadish died as he was not attended to quickly by the doctor on duty. The angry villagers threw stones and damaged the windows of the hospital. It took more than an hour for the police to disperse the angry villagers.
