Pedestrian crossing Sir, There is no pedestrian crossing after the R.T. Nagar intersection on Bellary Road. People find it difficult to cross the road near agricultural university. Accidents are common near Rama Temple on the road. Many flats are coming up in the vicinity. Will the authorities take note and provide a foot overbridge or pedestrian crossing near residential colonies such as Anand Nagar, Kempapura, Sahakar Nagar and Amrutha Halli? S. Chandra Bangalore Review needed Sir, The enormous growth of the city will lead to chaotic traffic, poor infrastructure, environmental hazards and increase in crime rate. "Making Bangalore another Singapore" and "eco-friendly city" will remain a dream forever. Development in Bangalore will further increase the cost of living making the life of middleclass people miserable. The policy of developing the city further needs to be reviewed. K.T. Thimma Reddy Bangalore Save the tree Sir, The big banyan tree off Mysore Road spread over two acres of land is a haunt for city residents. It is the fifth largest in India and attracts thousands of tourists. But a 400 kV high tension wire in its periphery is posing danger to those who visit the spot. The authority concerned, the Power Grid Corporation of India, should keep the power lines at least a 1,000 metres away from the tree. This banyan tree is a botanical wonder deserving its right to preservation and expansion. N.G. Gopalakrishna Reddy, R.C. Ashok Gowda, K.G. Prahalada Rao Bangalore Passengers' woes Sir, Passengers who travel by unreserved railway compartments face many hardships. Since there are only a few such compartments, there is always heavy rush. Touts and porters rush to enter the compartments, "reserve" seats and give them to passengers at a price. Quarrels are witnessed here frequently. Nobody worries about the helpless children and women who stand throughout the journey. Railway authorities should provide more unreserved carriages. Action should be taken against touts. G.T. Rajan Bangalore Readers can also mail their letters to letters. bangalore@thehindu.co.in
