DIC(K) leaders join Congress

KOCHI: A group of Youth Congress (Indira) activists, including their State general secretary P.D. Martin, have decided to resign from the Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) and join the Congress. Announcing the decision at a press conference here on Monday, Mr. Martin, who is also vice-chairman of Angamaly municipality, told presspersons that they were joining the Congress as it was a better proposition that supporting the United Democratic Front (UDF) from the outside. He alleged that the move to keep the DIC(K) as a constituent of the UDF was a ploy employed by K. Muraleedharan for making political advantage on a personal level. He said the deceptive tricks being played by the DIC(K) leadership could not be tolerated by party workers with any self-respect. A majority of the party workers and leaders are interested in joining the Congress.

Mr. Muraleedharn's declaration that the DIC(K) would field candidates in all 140 constituencies in the State was made with the aim of misleading the ordinary worker, Mr. Martin said. Mr. Muraleedharan who left the Congress complaining about lack of inner-party democracy is himself acting in an autocratic manner.

Mr. Martin said that the district secretaries including Maijo K. Augustine, P.R. Ragesh, P.P. Sebastian, Mohammed Anwar, Johnson Vallanat, Bijoy Kudiyirippil and about 60 block committee and constituency committee leaders had resigned from the DIC(K).
