Correspondent

Imphal: Three Manipur Rifles personnel were killed and two others including the brother of a Bharatiya Janata Party MLA injured in an exchange of fire during a drunken brawl here on Sunday night.

One of the inebriated personnel kept firing even as Imphal West Police Superintendent Clay Khongsai, along with reinforcements, rushed to the house of the MLA, B.D. Behring, and none of them could get in. The firing, which started at 7 p.m., continued till 9 a.m. when some police commandos sneaked in through the backdoor. The bodies of the dead were found in different parts of the house. An AK 47 rifle is missing.

It is said some personnel, on guard duty, were engaged in heated exchanges after a bout of drinks. Minutes later shots were fired.
