Exhibition of saris from Bengal

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: For 13 days starting Tuesday, Delhiites will be able to see and buy exquisite "Butidars", "Jamdanis", "Balucharies" and "Dhaniakhalis" of Bengal right here at the Aga Khan Convention Centre as Bengal Handloom is organising a Spring Festival to showcase cotton and silk saris in traditional weaves from the State.

According to the Adviser (Handlooms) of the Government of West Bengal, Kasturi Gupta Menon, this exhibition is an attempt by the West Bengal and Central governments to uplift the poor weaver community, to bring them out of West Bengal and look for other markets by providing a platform.

It is also aimed at breaking seasonal barriers of business.

Ms. Menon said these saris have a fine texture and exude sophistication and subtlety of temperament and the fine cottons are ideal for the coming hot and humid summer months.
