Governor releases logo of Bangalore Metro

Staff Reporter

It was chosen from among 400 entries in a competition

BANGALORE: Karnataka Governor T.N. Chaturvedi on Monday unveiled the logo for the proposed Bangalore Metro. The logo was chosen from among 400 entries in a competition.

The logo in green and purple has the catchword "Namma Metro" and it represents the ambition of making the transport service dear to everyone, it was explained. The green in the logo represents the garden city while the purple represents technology and modernity and at the same time being easy to remember, it was said.

Jayanth Jain and Mahendra of Else Design have developed the logo. The Governor felicitated them. When the Governor pressed a button, a panel with a picture of Vidhana Soudha and a modern train turned 180 degrees and there appeared the new logo. The audience got a mild scare when they heard a big sound, but they quickly understood the reality when festoons coloured the stage, apparently from a hidden balloon. Quickly thereafter, another balloon exploded and more festoons fell on the other side of the stage. Smoke covered the entire area for some time.

In his speech, Mr. Chaturvedi expressed happiness over the progress being made in implementing the metro rail project but pointed out that decision-making was not easy in a democracy. "Words from some ... create distrust though not intended... But a sense of restraint is always called for," he said. It was a talk to dispel such mistrust. Doing that required substantial steps, he said. He also referred to the "indifference among the members of the executive" and the need to "remind the Government (about its responsibilities) from time to time."

He congratulated the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) — the body implementing the project — and its managing director K.N. Srivastava for steering the project ahead.

Work in April

Earlier, Mr. Srivastava reiterated that the work on the metro rail would commence in the first week of April. The final clearance from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs was expected in eight to 10 days.

The meeting of the committee was expected to be held in New Delhi soon. He said the work would be completed in five years, but the first train on partially completed tracks would operate in three years time.
