BSNL subscribers lock up exchange

KADAPA: BSNL telephone subscribers of Kondugaripalle, Rachayapet and Tekuripet villages in Porumamilla mandal locked up the telephone exchange at Porumamilla and staged dharna on Monday. Protesting against phones not working for over a month, they threw away telephone instruments in protest.

HYDERABAD: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Sunday arrested a Sub-Inspector of Government Railway Police, P. Uma Maheswara Rao, working in Bhimavaram of West Godavari district on charge of receiving Rs. 20,000 bribe. - Staff Reporter

Veteran actor dead

HYDERABAD: Veteran stage and film actor Vallam Narasimha Rao (79), who was last seen in the Telugu film `Shankardada MBBS' died in sleep in the small hours of Monday. Mr. Rao is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter. - Special Correspondent

Collectorate besieged

Kakinada: Thousands of Anganwadi workers and helpers from the district took out a rally in the main streets of the city and later besieged the Collectorate raising slogans in support of their long pending demands. They also staged a dharna in front of the ICDS project Directors office. - Correspondent

ADILABAD: The Warangal Region Inspector-General of Police (IGP) J.V. Woman battling for life

KADAPA: Lakkineni Nadipakka, 25, mother of two children, is battling for life in Kadapa Government hospital, after her husband, Yohan, allegedly slit her throat in Eedulapalle in Porumamilla mandal on Monday afternoon. Villagers caught Yohan and handed him over to Porumamilla police. He was harassing her suspecting her fidelity, police said. — Staff Reporter

Sewing machines to minority women

KADAPA: Proddatur MLA N. Varadarajulu Reddy gave away 80 sewing machines to minority women at a programme organised by the Minority Welfare Association at Proddatur.

Minority women were sanctioned one hundred and thirty-six sewing machines, he said.

Plea to reinstate power workers

KADAPA: CITU and United Electricity Employees Union leaders staged a dharna before Badvel MRO Office on Monday demanding reinstatement of four sacked contract power workers.

Accusing Transco directors of being hand in glove with the erring contractor, CITU leader, A. Chandrasekhar, union leader Srinivasulu, demanded action against them. — Staff Reporter

Civic standing panel members

KADAPA: Kadapa Municipal Corporation on Monday elected five Standing Committee members from among 50 corporators, under the aegis of Deputy Mayor K. Nabi Rasool. Those elected were Bola Padmavathi, K. Srinivasulu, Putha Venkatasubba Reddy, Syed Jamal Vali and Abdul Jabbar. Kadapa Mayor P. Ravindranath Reddy would be ex-officio chairman. — Staff Reporter
