KOZHIKODE: The second day of the three-day-long national IT festival `Iris 2006' being conducted by MCA Centre, Vadakara, at the Municipal Hall there attracted a large crowd. The main aim of the fete is to make the public aware of the importance and growth of Information Technology (IT). The seminar sessions of the festival were inaugurated by K.K.N. Kurup, former Vice-Chancellor of Calicut University, on Monday. He said that even when the new globalised economy was being initiated into the country, one must be conscious of the need for the uplift of the weaker sections of society. Information Technology education should be designed with a view to giving a chance to backward areas also, he said. Cultural competitions, technical contests and a film festival were held on the occasion. The programme will conclude on Tuesday with a folk melody. The MCA Centre has come up with the IT fete after organising `Cerebra 2002' and a national workshop on IT and applied physics in 2004
